TAIWAN
FUN Taipei City Guide.February, 2009 EDITION
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, we celebrated Lantern's Festival on the 15th of January. While everyone can travel to Pingxi to enjoy the beauty of the sky lanterns, southerners also have the privilege of enjoying the exciting Yenshuei fireworks event. Both of these long-lived cultural events always attract thousands of tourists each year, especially the Yenshuei "beehive" fireworks show. Many visitors don't really understand or care what meaning or story is behind this annual event, simply focusing on a "front-line" experience with the thrill of the firecrackers flying everywhere in front to them. Speaking from personal experience, I would really like to remind our readers: If you want to get that close to the front line, it is absolutely necessary to make sure you are fully equipped. This means you cannot miss the smallest detail when it comes to covering up every inch of your body; not even one towel less inside your helmet will do. The smoke will make your face dirty and the firecrackers don't have a target, so they WILL be flying everywhere, and they WILL still get into your headgear and leave marks on your face.
